Newport

Newport is the capital town of the Isle Of Wight although at one time Carisbrooke was the capital and Newport came into exsistence as a suburb to Carisbrooke because of the river Medina. This made industry easier because the river Medina flows to and is navigable directly into the solent, hence the name Newport.

There are plenty of attractions in and around Newport; some well known and others less so. Included around the Newport area are The Roman Villa - which is open to the public, Carisbrooke Castle - which certain parts date different era’s (16th century, 13th century, Norman Invasions and even a hint of Roman times), Robin Hill - a theme park nearby, The Postal Museum and The Lavender Farm - also a few minutes drive from Newport.

In Newport itself you can still see history intertwined with more modern day developments. In recent years Newport has seen 2 small retail parks come into being and numerous road changes; bring it up-to-date with any modern town.

The Isle Of Wight Festival which is held at Seaclose Park brings many visitors to the Island during June and there are many great places to eat out within a 5 minutes drive.
